Serving a Holiday Meal and Holiday conversation at the table
By admin | December 14, 2008
A big meal is on the menu. Do you have all the dinnerware you need?
The extra pieces you need is easy. You need extra plates (in a variety of sizes depending on your menu), extra serving bowls (with and without lids) and maybe an extra platter.
Bring out that platter that Grandmom gave you. Show off the big bowl that you bought on vacation. Then, tell the stories that go with the piece, as you are sitting down during the meal. Who doesn’t want to hear a story about Grandmom? And what a great time you had on vacation, . . . or was it a horror story, and you are all glad to be back home? These kinds of stories and the resulting conversations make the holiday meal time fun, and memorable.
The dinner table itself can tell a story. So, don’t get caught up in the thought that everything must match! It can be striking when every piece compliments the other to create a beautiful table, but it is more thought provoking and will generate memorable conversation and memories when the stories make the meal!
